What’s In My Airplane Bag

I keep my airplane bag as lightweight as possible because, let me tell you, I have had some really bad airport luck.

Like this one time that I packed a ton of stuff in my carry-on tote because I was too lazy to make room in my suitcase, and I ended up stuck in the Atlanta airport for 17 hours. I lugged that thing around for SEVENTEEN HOURS, Y’ALL.

Anyway, that wasn’t the first time I’ve ended up stuck in an airport, and since I mostly travel by myself, I end up carrying my stuff around with me everywhere I go. I’ve learned to keep my bag as light as possible while still packing the things I need.

I’m headed out to Dallas, TX for DFWCon this weekend, one of my favorite conferences for writers. I’ll be flying out Friday after work and will go directly out to dinner with friends after I get off the plane, so I need to be sure I don’t look like a slob. Here’s what I’ll be packing!

  1. First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream (1 oz.)

My poor hands get SO dry and cracked all winter, which is how I ended up with this FAB product. It does the trick but isn’t terribly greasy or heavy. My skin always gets weird on those dry, stuffy planes so I always travel with the 1 oz. of this stuff. It doesn’t have a heavy scent either, so you won’t bug your neighbors! You can buy it at Sephora or on Amazon.

  2. Rifle Paper Co. XL Rectangular Cosmetic Bag

I keep all of my beauty products (and my earbuds!) tucked into a makeup bag so that I’m not digging around aimlessly every time I need something. It helps to keep things organized, not to mention the bright colors bring a smile to my face, even on the most stressful travel day.

  3. amika Obliphica Un.Done Texture Spray (1 oz.)

Have you seen that episode of Gilmore Girls where Lorelei complains about plane hair? Well, it’s real. I can’t explain why or how but my hair is always flatter and weirder when I get off a plane then when I got on. I spritz this in at my roots after I land and it perks my hair right back up. It’s one of my daily hair products as well, but the travel size is perfect for throwing in my airplane bag.

  4. ban.do Mobile Charger

Okay, how ADORABLE is this mobile charger? I keep one in my bag in case my phone dies (insert story about the time I couldn’t get an uber because my phone was dead as a doornail after a long flight). The one I have is from Best Buy and it works fine, but this pink one is calling my name!

  5. Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment in Poppy

I’m a LipSense girl through and through, but I don’t like to bother with much lip color on a flight. Not to mention I can really use some extra hydration. This tinted lip balm from Fresh is AMAZING and comes in several different shades. It’s a step up from chapstick for sure, so it’ll be perfect for hitting up Deep Ellum the second I get off the plane! You can buy it at Sephora or online, I’m sure.

  6. Caudalie Beauty Elixir

This stuff isn’t cheap, but it’s really worth it. My face ALWAYS feel dry after a flight, so this little bottle goes in my airplane bag every time. You can spritz it directly onto your skin and it immediately gives you a moisturized, fresh look and feel (without messing up your makeup). It smells lovely too.

  7. Airplane Read! The Whole Thing Together by Ann Brashares

I’m super excited about this book, written by the author of good old Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. I always pack a new book and my earbuds on a short plane ride and switch between listening to music and reading throughout the flight. I usually don’t bring my laptop to cut down on the weight of my bag, unless it’s a long or international flight. I bet I’ll have this one read by the end of the weekend, so I’ll let you know how I like it!

What’s in your airplane bag? I’d love to know!

You can follow me and my conference adventures on my Instagram story and Twitter this weekend. See you Monday!
