5 Tips for Getting Inspired (plus a recap of DFWCon 2017!)

I don’t always feel inspired. Lately, I haven’t felt inspired at all. I know this blog is all confetti and pink, but that doesn’t mean I’m not just as vulnerable to the mean reds as the next girl (Oh Holly, you know us so well). I want to be a person that encourages you, and I don’t believe I can do that without being real. And being real means telling you that it’s been tough getting out of bed for the last several weeks. Last week I shared here about how I lost my sweet kitty in early April, which totally threw …

What’s In My Airplane Bag

I keep my airplane bag as lightweight as possible because, let me tell you, I have had some really bad airport luck. Like this one time that I packed a ton of stuff in my carry-on tote because I was too lazy to make room in my suitcase, and I ended up stuck in the Atlanta airport for 17 hours. I lugged that thing around for SEVENTEEN HOURS, Y’ALL. Anyway, that wasn’t the first time I’ve ended up stuck in an airport, and since I mostly travel by myself, I end up carrying my stuff around with me everywhere I go. I’ve …

The Truth About LuLaRoe (from someone who doesn’t sell it!)

The first time I was added to a LuLaRoe group I thought I had been invited to some weird baby shower. I rubbed my sleepy eyes (it was 6am) and took a sip of my ginger peach tea before I clicked through to see (literally) the most colorful leggings I had ever seen in my entire life. Like, ever. (If you know anything about LuLaRoe, then you know what I’m talking about.) Fast forward to this dress, which LulaRoe calls the “Carly”, that ended up being my first garment from this company. It’s pretty cute, no? If you’ve not familiar, LulaRoe is …

A Few Thoughts on Surviving Loss

“Sarah, where have you been?” I’m touched by the number of times I’ve received this email in the last few weeks, and so I’ve decided it’s finally time to share. The photos won’t be perfect and crisp, but nothing about the last few weeks has been that way either, and I want to be real. When I woke up on a Monday morning, three weeks ago, I already knew that something was wrong. If you’ve been around here for a bit, you know about Ginnie. The most loving, precious kitty in this world (except for yours, maybe. Isn’t it crazy how they find …

Outfit of the Week//SUGARFIX by BaubleBar

Someone once joked to me that I should start throwing $100 bills out the window when I drove by Target. Real funny, huh? And now there’s the SUGARFIX by BaubleBar line for Target, and it’s perfect, and so I may just leave my wallet in the parking lot and call it good. Take my money, Target. Just take it. (Please tell me I’m not the only one here that’s obsessed with Target.) In any case, they’ve done it again, friends! I’ve long be an admirer of BaubleBar’s bright, playful designs but never sprang for the high-ish prices. But their new partnership with …

Outfit of the Week//Shop Local

The morning that I shot these photos with the lovely Kailey Watson, no less than five people stopped to tell me that they loved my outfit. Considering that I was wearing a pair of jeans, flats, and rocking 4th day hair, I don’t think I deserved all the praise. But that, friends, is the magic of an off-the-shoulder top. Not to mention the magic of local boutique Urban Couture which you absolutely must check out if you’re a Tulsa girl. Talk more in a sec– (Don’t worry, I’m still hopelessly short.) You better believe I’m going to be adding even more of these …

How to Wear Green On St. Patrick’s Day!

I don’t consider myself a rebel by any means, but I kind of am on St. Patrick’s Day. I have always had an aversion to holidays that demand I wear a specific color. I usually wear blue on Valentine’s Day and orange on the 4th of July (Christmas gets a pass, because it’s Christmas). But try being a nanny or a high school teacher on St. Patrick’s Day (I’ve been both) and not wear anything green. Homegirl’s gonna hear about it all, day, long. So I finally figured out the key to being festive without wearing shamrocks around my neck and not …

5 Tips For Flu Recovery (From a Teacher!)

In case you were wondering about the radio silence over here for the last two weeks, I had the flu. The dreaded, awful, influenza plague from hell. I was able to get on Tamiflu fairly quickly so the worst of it only lasted about 36 hours. But if you’ve had the flu before, you know that your fever breaking is only the beginning. We teachers know this best. Why? We get the flu (and the like) a lot. Kids are basically just incubi of the viral plague. We can’t stay away from work for long without everything falling apart. And we teachers …

5 Ways to Look Less Tired, Less Broke, or Less Burnt-Out

“Miss Pradhan, are you sick?” A student looked me in the eye and asked this last year, on a day when I really thought I looked halfway decent and was not even remotely ill. But no, no, he wasn’t fooled, and no one else was either. Post-grad life is many wonderful things, but it’s also EXHAUSTING. I don’t have the money laying around to always be buying the latest stuff, and since I’m a teacher, I usually stop caring about how I look by about mid-April because I’m that burnt-out. But then I learned that it only takes a few key moves …

Two Hours to a Week to a Clean Apartment All The Time!

So this one time, when I was feeling extra dramatic stressed out, I opened the door to my room at the end of the day and saw my cat sleeping in a pile of still-wet laundry and trash on my floor. (To be fair, she had knocked the trash can over herself, and I REALLY DID THINK THE LAUNDRY WAS DRY, OKAY?) Ginnie looked up at me with a face that I can only imagine meant that she was thinking “Geez, mom. I could have stayed on the streets if I wanted to live in a dump.” So I proceeded to lay …
