Hey, you! I’m glad you’re here. I’m Sarah: writer, twenty-something, and lover of all things pretty, witty, and fun.
I’m not sure what I thought twenty-something life would be like, but I definitely didn’t expect to graduate from college with my super expensive degree, no job opportunities, and absolutely no idea what I wanted to do in the world. I felt like my whole life had stalled out. But since I didn’t have school to attend (for the first time EVER) and had exactly zero appealing job opportunities, I decided to spread my wings a little, have some adventures, and regroup.
And you know what I found out? I wasn’t alone. I had somehow spun myself this narrative that every other recent college girl was going off to graduate school, or starting her fancy new job, getting married, or even doing all three. Girl, I was way off.
I moved from my forever hometown of Tulsa, OK, all the way to the city of Boston to work as a nanny and figure out my life. And everywhere I went, I found more women just like me: smart, driven, and also fairly clueless about when and how we were supposed to have magically morphed into adults.
I wasn’t alone, and that’s when the idea for Party of Sarah came about. I longed for a place to connect with all of you amazing twenty-somethings and figure out how to do life together. Several years later, I’ve landed back in my hometown once again, and I’m thrilled that my blogging dream has FINALLY been realized!
I would love for you to hang out with me on social media so we can connect about our weird, crazy, lovely lives, and would love it even more if you’d subscribe to my email list for lots of other news and goodies. Or, you can do both! Either way, I want to connect with you!
Here’s some other stuff you might want to know!
Do you blog full-time?
That’s the dream! My goal is to eventually move into blogging and writing full-time (you can read more about my writing adventures here). But for the time being I’m putting my acting degree to good use, and I teach theatre at an amazing high school in my city. It’s busy, but I love it.
What brought you to Boston and back?
I fell in love with the city of Boston while working a summer camp job in the western half of Massachusetts. I had nothing to lose, so I decided to hunt down a live-in nanny position in the city. I found an awesome family and moved in with them to care for their kids just a few months later. It was a wild, amazing year. I moved back to Tulsa after it became clear to me that writing and blogging was what I wanted to pursue. Moving back to my hometown would enable me to have more resources (read: time and money) in order to accomplish that. I miss Boston every day, but I am thrilled to be back on my old stomping grounds. It’s been a bittersweet thing, for sure.
Would you recommend nannying/becoming an au pair?
I would! I will be writing a full post about my nannying journey very soon, so stay tuned! In the meantime, feel free to email me if you have questions.
Where did you get the name “Party of Sarah”?
Naming my blog was definitely the toughest part of this process. The idea came to me in the lobby of a restaurant, listening to the host calling out tables. (You know… “Jack, party of 3! Jill, party of 8!”) I had just recently gone through a breakup, and I turned to my friend and joked, “Sarah, party of 1!” She looked at me and said, “Hey, you should name your blog that!”
It seemed silly at the time, but it really got me thinking.
More than anything I wanted my blog to be a bright and positive place. I also wanted my blog to be an antithesis to the idea that twenty-something life is all stress, drama, and uncertainty. What better antithesis to that than a party?!
Who’s the kitty?
That’s Ginnie, the love of my life.
I would love to collaborate with you! How do I get in touch?
Yay! Email me, please! firstname.lastname@example.org
Can I buy your book?
Someday, yes! I’m actively looking for representation for the first in a series of novels now, and I also have a memoir in the works. For more information or to receive any of my materials, please email me at email@example.com
Mountains or beach?
Beach. Every time.
Are you married?
Did you design your own site?
I work with the phenomenally talented, kind, and ever-professional husband-wife duo over at Autumn Lane Paperie. They designed my site and now manage it for me. I cannot recommend them more highly! Visit them here.
Did you get your degree in some type of writing?
No, actually I got my degree in theatre with an acting emphasis. Theatre was my first love, and that’s part of why I love what I do as an acting teacher, even though I do eventually hope to write full time.
Wait, so, how did you learn how to write a book?
A lot of trial and error. My acting degree helped me to understand character and story development, and from there I read a lot—both novels within my genre and books about writing. Later on in the process, I hired my amazing editor, and she taught me a lot as well.
You can read more about my publishing journey thus far in this post.
Three words that describe you?
Passionate, joyful, ambitious.
Who knows? That wouldn’t be any fun at all.
